The workhorse
of the program is the AVS or Age Verification System. This
is what is considered the main screen of the application.
During business hours, this is where the actual swiping of
the license occurs. The window will change as a result to
the date of birth found on the magnetic strip. The actual
person’s age does not appear on-screen but in one of the following
three categories:

In
the upper right-hand corner of the AVS is a window displaying
the amount in which that customer must pay as a cover charge.
If you set the system to not allow anyone under 21, then the
Under 21 screen will pop-up in red and no cover will be shown.
All cover amounts are set in the system setup menu and can
vary from day to day.

If
someone is using a license that does not have a compatible
magnetic strip, that person’s age/sex information can be entered
manually just by pressing one of the function keys along the
top of the keyboard. A graphic along the bottom of the AVS
screen shows which keys to press to enter someone manually.

If
the person is a VIP or Guest of the club, then by pressing
F9 or F10, you can arm the system to reflect their status.

A
virtual red light will appear on the AVS window indicating
that the system is armed.

The
next swipe or manual entry into the system will be entered
as a VIP or Guest. This allows the customer to be discounted
when running your cash drawer report to see what the front
register should have brought in. VIP’s are never charged a
cover in Velvet Rope and Guest can have a separate amount
then normal customers. This is useful if you have coupons
for reduced admission. The F11 and F12 keys are used in conjunction
with the VIP/Guest list module. Pressing one will bring up
the VIP/Guest search window to the right side of the AVS.
Each of these features is described in the “VIP
List Tracking” section.
